Last month we held our third Brewer for a Day experience. A group of home brewers and beer enthusiasts joined us in brewing our Strawberry Rhubarb Sour. Kicking off at 6 am, these brewers-in-the-making experienced mashing in the grain in the morning to pitching the souring culture (yoghurt) just after a delicious feed.
As the mash in was being completed, our brewers enjoyed a brewer's breakfast and covered the basics of brewing. Going over the four ingredients of beer, what they add to the brew and how the subtle changes in each ingredient can create a very different finished product. While the wort was transferring into the kettle, we covered the importance of water. As we waited for the kettle to come to a boil, our brewers enjoyed a little brewer's bento and went through the guidelines to creating the perfect beer and food combo.
As the kettle was prepped for the addition of our souring culture, we experience the height of beer snobbery with some beer judging against industry approved guideline.
After lunch, a few beers and some great chat, we were ready to pitch the yoghurt. Our brewers in the making grabbed their four pack of sours and took off in to the day with their thirst for knowledge and beer well and truely quenched. Thank you to all who came along.
We love hosting these brewer experiences and plan to be hosting many more in the not too distant future.
